But the real reason we visit is
to relax, eat well and catch up on what's been
happening. Ed and Gene eating very well. |

We made a late start and a
leisurely trip from Derry up to Pittsburg in the
Great North Woods. Stopping a couple of times to
take pix, empty and reload. You know how it is
traveling with women :) |

For as long as we have been going
to New Hampshire, Sharon has been telling us
there are moose to be seen everywhere. Well
until this trip we have never seen any. The trip
to The Great North Woods was planned to
guarantee we would see some. The first evening
there, we went out and sure enough we saw a
couple cows. The middle picture left is what we
could see and below is the enhanced image just
to be sure it wasn't just another moose shaped
shadow. |

Early the next morning we went
out and saw this moose just hanging out on the
side of the road. |

We didn't see any bull moose in
the wild but the day after we arrived moose
hunting season opened. A guy in the cabin next
to ours got this one and brought it back in his
pickup.
Below is a rack we saw that
shows just how big these animals can be.
Moose are noisy when they walk
through the woods and they have no fear. They
will just stand there and look at you. Shooting
them doesn't seem like much of a challenge. But
i may be wrong. |

Pittsburg is not far from Canada
so early Saturday morning we dragged Cuzncindy
out of bed, put her overcoat on and dragged her
out to see the early morning moose and the U.S /
Canada border. |
|

 |
| |
|

The Canadian
side. The U.S. border guard told us the
Canadian's didn't start work until 8. Presumably
Canada is closed from midnight until 8am.
We saw a bag
lady in no mans land between the two border
posts going north for the winter...
...no wait. That's Cuzncindy taking pictures.

It was still raining but we went
out for breakfast and afterwards looked for some
of the local bridges. |

We found the Happy Bend Bridge
and the River Road bridge but gave up on the
Pittsburg-Clarksville bridge when the road
turned into little more than a drive in the
woods. Sharon was not happy about reversing out
if we couldn't find a place to turn around.
On the way back to Derry we came
across the Columbia Bridge over the Connecticut River
between Columbia, NH and Lemington, VT |

Even with the GPS we weren't able

We drove back to Derry on Sunday
through a lot of heavy rain. The rivers were
noticeably higher and Cuzncindy was
appropriately worried. By this time Ed's
flu drugs were kicking in so he wasn't feeling
as bad as he did but Sharon was going downhill.
Monday Ed left us to go to Miami for a boat
equipment exposition while we stayed in Derry
relaxing for another day. |
|
|
Tuesday afternoon we packed up
and caught the plane home. I didn't mention
above that we stopped in Lancaster on the way
home to pick up some maple syrup for Gene. He
couldn't wait to try it so on Sharon made
pancakes one morning and Gene opened one of the
syrup bottles. Well it seems that the lid wasn't
on real tight and with the reduced air pressure
in the luggage compartment on the plane it
leaked out. Fortunately the bottle was in one of Cuzncindy's suitcases. Needless to say she went
into a laundry frenzy when we got home at 12:30
am!
Now all we have to
look forward to is the arrival of
Hurricane
Wilma :( |
