Carmela Kay Valenti Polizzi Miller

Speeches have played varying roles in American history.  Some were ignored at the time they were given, some gained importance as the years passed, others had a tremendous effect at the time they were delivered, and yet others are barely remembered today.  Dad and I have prepared a speech for Grandma Kay in celebration of her 90th birthday party and we like to let you know we used a little help from dear ol’ Abraham Lincoln.

Four score and seven years ago

Our forefathers brought forth on this continent

A new born baby named Carmella Kay Valenti

Conceived in Liberty in Hillsvale, Pennsylvania

And dedicated to the proposition that all her family

members were born and treated equal.

Now we are engaged in a great celebration

Testing whether that family, that conceived Kay

And so dedicated, can and has long endured

We have met at a great event.

We have dedicated this special day as a meeting place

And still taking time to remember those who

We shared our lives with

In that our family and traditions live on.

It is altogether fitting and

Proper that we should do this.

But in a larger sense, we can look at each of  our own lives

And how we lived our journey through life.

In how we struggled and triumphed and consecrated it

Far above our power to change,

Add or defract it.

The world will little note, nor long remember

What we say here, but it is a Kodak moment.

Yes a moment in time.

It is for us the living, rather to be dedicated here to the unfinished ceremony

Which we have long awaited, thus far so

Nobly addresses.

It is rather for us to be here dedicated

To this great lady before us

That from these of which are family and friends.

That we here highly resolve that these

Honored guests shall enjoy the celebration.

That this family, under God.  Shall have many

New births under freedom

And that the tradition of our people, by the people,

And for our people, shall not perish from the earth.
